Alford Walking Group
Posted by Arthur Dellea in Alford Garden Club on June 18, 2011
The Alford Garden Club is trying to organize a walking group in town. Anyone interested should meet at Town Hall any Tuesday or Wednesday at 8:30am. Come alone, come with a friend – doesn’t have to be a club member, doesn’t have to be an Alford resident. No need to contact anyone about showing up. Just come if you want to walk. Whoever is there will walk.
Spring is finally here!

Although there were many times this past cold, snowy winter when I was sure spring and summer would be canceled this year, we are finally able to go out into our gardens once again.
On May 18th, the Alford Garden Club opens its 2011 season with a wonderful Spring Luncheon at a local restaurant. We all look forward to welcoming the new gardening season by meeting with our fellow gardeners and friends after the long winter hiatus.
The rest of the gardening season is celebrated with monthly meetings where we visit local area gardens, listen to speakers who educate us on various aspects of horticulture and enjoy delicious refreshments provided by member hosts.
We once again celebrated the end of the season last year with our annual Covered Dish Luncheon. Our 2010 award recipient was Mel Greenberg who has been a fixture in the community for many years. His selflessness, hard work and leadership is an inspiration to us all. In 2009 our Luncheon was canceled because of bad weather but we did award our the Club’s Recognition award to Mary Poole. She was awarded this honor because of her tireless work for the Alford Garden Club and the Alford community.
Our Conservation committee will be sponsoring our annual clean up of the trash that accumulates alongside the roads of Alford. You can help by picking up any trash you see as you walk anywhere in Alford. Our Beautification Committee is responsible for the magnificent barrels you see all over our community as well as the beds in front of Town Hall and the Alford Fire Department. If you would like to help, please let us know.
Thanks to all the Officers and Committee Chairs of the Alford Garden Club who are devoted to our town, to gardening, to beauty and who make my job easy.
