Car Break-Ins

Police are warning residents to lock their cars when unattended, after several vehicles were broken into in South County in recent weeks. Officers are investigating a number of break-ins that occured in the Great Barrington village of Housatonic and the town of Alford. State police are heading the investigation in Alford. Thieves are targeting cash, cell phones, CDs and other items, investigators said.

One individual, Jason Tweed, 30, of Great Barrington, has been arrested in connection with a break-in that occured outside of the Housatonic Post Office on Jan. 6, while the driver was inside the building. Tweed was found nearby with a cell phone that belonged to the driver, police said. Tweed was charged with breaking and entering and larceny over $250. He was released on personal recognizance and is due back in Southern Berkshire District Court at a future date.
