The Alford Senior Volunteer Committee Of TRIAD

Dear Alford Senior Neighbors:

It was just about a year ago that we began making our daily telephone calls asking, “Are you O.K.?” We are writing again to find out if there are any more senior neighbors over 65 living alone that would want us to call them. Our three committee members, Joe Silvestri, Barbara Strauss and Mel Greenberg, are ready and willing to call anyone who would like to be called.

Bobby Van Deusen, a woman that we started to call in February 2010 has this to say about the experience: “I think it is very comforting to know that I am going to be called by someone to make sure I am O.K. Since Mel has called me since the beginning, we have become very close friends. As we get older, we can’t have enough good friends.”

Martha Bright has this to say: “Thank you for your numerous telephone calls to check up on how I am doing, or if I need anything. I feel very fortunate to have services like this available to me. It does give one comfort and peace of mind, to know people like you are there, as volunteers for the elderly. I would never take advantage of your services, which allow us stay in our home as long as we can. Being able to keep in touch makes my heart less anxious and most appreciative for your being there.”

Mary Voos states: “I find it very reassuring to have someone call daily to make sure I am O.K.”

We are now offering an additional service. If you are in need of transportation for shopping, medical appointments, etc., and have no other means of getting there, please call any of us and we will either take you, or arrange to get someone to take you. If you are interested in volunteering to be one of the transporters, please call Mel Greenberg at (413) 528-4201.

Currently we are working on three other projects, so that soon we will also be able to offer our senior neighbors “Link to Life” pendants, “Medical Reminders”, and Home Security Devices. The names and telephone numbers of our committee members are listed below. If, and when, you want to take advantage of any of our services, please call us.
