Town Meetings and Elections Schedules 

Alford uses the open town meeting form of government, and is led by a board of selectmen. Town Meetings and Town Elections are held in the Alford Town Hall. The Town Offices are located in the former Alford School House. Annual town report booklets are printed every January, and are available for pick-up at the Town Offices. 

  • Annual Town Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday in May at 7:00pm.
  • Town Elections are on the 3rd Tuesday in May from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.
  • Selectmen and Board Of Health meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays every month in the Selectmen’s Office at 7:00pm.
  • Assessors meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays every month in the Assessor’s Office at 7:00pm.
  • Planning Board meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday every month in the Town Hall at 7:30pm.
  • Conservation Committee meetings are on the 4th Wednesday every month in the Town Hall at 7:30pm.
  • Finance Committee and Zoning Board Of Appeals meetings are at the call of the Chairman.
  • All Special Town Meetings and Public Hearings are called by approving authorities.

Governmental Services 

The town has its own police, fire and public works departments, but does not have its own post office (it shares the North Egremont, Great Barrington, and West Stockbridge post offices). The town’s library, which is on the second floor of the Town Hall, is connected to the regional library system. The nearest hospital, Fairview Hospital, is located in neighboring Great Barrington. State and National Governance 

On the state level, Alford is represented in the Massachusetts House of Representatives by the Fourth Berkshire district, which covers southern Berkshire County, as well as the westernmost towns in Hampden County. In the Massachusetts Senate, the town is represented by the Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin district, which includes all of Berkshire County and western Hampshire and Franklin Counties. The town is patrolled by the First (Lee) Station of Barracks “B” of the Massachusetts State Police. On the national level, Alford is represented in the United States House of Representatives as part of Massachusetts’s 1st congressional district.
